Star Trek Convention-Las Vegas- New Location- The Rio

For those of you planning on attending the Las Vegas Convention, this is a reminder that the location has been changed to the RIO Hotel/Casino. Creations has posted information on their site as to what this years convention will have. As a "local" Las Vegan I can tell you that it is a very good place to go. It is not however on the actual "strip" it is west of the main strip on Flamingo so the monorail does not run out to it. You will need your personal car, or have to use cabs/buses or car pool to get there if you are staying at other hotels in town. ( Naturally the best thing to do is stay there.) Secondary best is the Gold Coast Casino/Hotel which is next door. Traffic in the area is heavy. There are some sidewalks but... mostly parking lots and major streets (six lanes in some cases). More details will be available as you get closer to actual date. If you haven't made reservations, better do it soon.

For those who are not aware, the gaming commission has a law in effect that "masks" can not be worn on Casino floors. This includes "ridges". So if you go as Imperial Klingons you will have to avoid the actual casino floors. No word yet on how security is going to handle the crowds. I suspect they will have some means of routing fans to the convention areas. I have not been able to yet talk with their representatives. I will try to provide some more updated information in my next post.
